On a Sunday of non-stop rain and chilly temperatures in Sao Paulo, Hamilton showed gentlemanly behaviour by offering the grid girl at his pole-sitting car his Mercedes pufferjacket.
Hamilton himself was later needing the coat himself amid a succession of red-flag periods on a day of rain and on-track carnage at Interlagos.
However, after not putting a wheel wrong all day in a supreme performance, Hamilton claimed his ninth win of the year three hours after the race first started to take the title fight with Nico Rosberg down to the wire in Abu Dhabi.
