Pre-season testing 2017: Barcelona to host both sessions

Barcelona will host both four-day pre-season testing sessions ahead of the 2017 season.

There was clamour from Pirelli and some teams to test in Bahrain to run the new wider tyres in hotter conditions, but both logistical and financial difficulties has seen the schedule stay at the Circuit de Catalunya as planned.

The 2017 race calendar

Teams agreed on the decision at the US Grand Prix, and the tests will run on February 27-March 2 and March 7-10. It will be the first time fans will get a chance to see the new-for-2017 cars after the expansive rules overhaul in the sport.

What can we expect from 2017's rule changes?

It is almost certain the in-season test currently scheduled for after the Spanish Grand Prix at Barcelona in May will now be switched to after the race in Bahrain to cater for Pirelli's requests for warm-weather testing.
