Kaltenborn, Monisha

F1's first lady after becoming the first lady team principal in the sport after taking charge of Sauber in 2012.

Karthikeyan, Narain

India's first ever F1 driver who made his debut with Jordan in 2005 and, after six years away spent competing in various categories, returned with backmarkers HRT for eight races in 2011 - including his country's historic inaugural race - and a full-time seat for 2012.

KERS

The Kinetic Energy Recovery System which recovers wasted energy from the car during braking and then stores it in a battery for the driver to use for a regulated amount of time during each lap via a button on the steering wheel. Used on and off between 2009 and 2013 before integration into more comprehensive ERS system. See also: ERS.

Key, James

Toro Rosso's highly-rated technical director who, whisper it, may have actually produced a better chassis than the senior team Red Bull team in 2015 on a fraction of the budget.

Kitty Litter

The affectionate name given to gravel traps. Except by drivers stuck in one.

Kobayashi, Kamui

Daredevil driver, formerly of Sauber and Caterham, famed for his spirit and overtaking, but less so for his consistency. Contemplated working at the family Sushi restaurant in the winter of 2009/2010 following the withdrawal of long-time backer Toyota from F1 before his career was given a reprieve by Sauber.

Kolles, Colin

Qualified dentist turned Team Principal who left HRT in December 2011 following the team's relocation to Spain. Also a past employee of the rebranded Jordan/Midland/Spyker/Force India outfit. Briefly re-emerged in 2014 as an 'advisor' to Caterham's mysterious pre-closure owners.

Korea

Country visited by F1 to no great acclaim and even less love due to the remoteness of the Korean International Circuit. Imagine the British Grand Prix in North Devon. Dropped from the calendar for 2014 and beyond.

Kovalainen, Heikki

Former Renault and race-winning McLaren driver who recovered confidence and credibility during three seasons at Caterham before an odd 2013 campaign saw him dropped for a race seat for financial reasons, only to re-sign as a test driver and then race in the final two grands prix for Lotus when an unpaid Kimi Raikkonen walked out on the team.

Kravitz, Ted

Sky Sports F1's rather brilliant pitlane reporter who also narrates post-session qualifying and race notebooks at every grand prix for essential weekend viewing. See also: Notebook, Ted's.

Kubica, Robert

Hugely-talented and much-missed Polish driver currently pursuing a career in rallying after suffering extremely serious injuries to hand and arm whilst rallying in February 2011.

Kvyat, Daniil

Red Bull's latest young recruit and 2013 GP3 champion who has already displaced Vitaly Petrov as Russia's best-ever F1 driver. Out-pointed Daniel Ricciardo in 2015.
