Danny Willett secured the biggest victory of his career when he strolled home by four shots in the Nedbank Challenge at Sun City.

The Englishman stormed away from compatriots Ross Fisher and Luke Donald on the final day in South Africa, carding a closing 66 as overnight leader Donald failed to end a winless streak of more than a year on his 37th birthday.

Donald started the day a stroke clear of Willett but dropped two strokes in his first five holes and soon lost the lead to the Yorkshireman, whose only previous European Tour win came at the 2012 BMW International Open.

Former world No 1 Donald rallied with birdies at the sixth and ninth, but then came a costly dropped shot at the 10th that seemed to completely stop his momentum.

-14 R Fisher (Eng)
-12 L Donald (Eng)
-9 M Siem (Ger)
-7 K Aphibarnrat (Tha)
-6 M A Jimenez (Esp)

Fisher stayed in touch with five birdies and two bogeys in his first 10 holes but he was never close enough to put any serious pressure on Willett, who continued his ruthless display of scoring on the back-nine.

He made the most of the par five 10th and 14th holes and picked up a sixth birdie of the day on 17 by when the tournament was all but over as a contest, his eventual 18-under par total proving four strokes too good for Fisher.

"My caddie John and I spoke at the start of the week and came up with a good game plan, to be aggressive off the tee on this golf course," Willett said.

"It's visually very intimidating, but I've been driving the ball really well and we wanted to give ourselves a lot more wedges and nine irons into holes, whereas some guys are just laying back.

He added: "It was just one of those weeks where the swing felt good and it came off. South Africa is a place that's suited me in the past and I've played well down here."

Donald picked up a birdie at 14  to at least keep his hopes of second place alive but, one shot behind Fisher coming to the last, he dropped a shot to finish the tournament in a disappointing third.

Marcel Siem finished the week off strongly with four birdies in his last 10 holes to finish fourth on nine-under with Thailand's Kiradech Aphibarnrat matching Siem's round of 68 to fill fifth.
