Jamie Donaldson has called for the British Masters to become a permanent fixture on the European Tour, but said he would prefer the event to be played in the summer.

The tournament returned to Woburn this week, hosted by Ian Poulter, following a seven-year absence from the Tour and has attracted more than 57,000 spectators since Thursday.

Donaldson, who was part of Europe's Ryder Cup success last year, has backed the event to return on a more regular basis but believes it should be scheduled for the summer in order to play on firmer greens.

"I would love to see it as a consistent tournament on our schedule," said Donaldson.

"It would be nice to see it in the middle of the season, in June maybe, when you could get the greens firmer."

Donaldson ended his week with a one-over-par 72 on Sunday to finish with a level-par score at Woburn and the 39-year-old admitted he struggled to adapt to the conditions of the course.

"The whole week was a bit up and down really," said Donaldson. "I'm feeling a bit tired.

Luke Donald and Ian Poulter put on a putting masterclass at the British Masters

"I hit a lot of good shots from the fairway but couldn't get close to the flags and didn't putt great.

"The greens are tricky, they are very, very soft and it's hard to control the golf ball. You are always chipping to take the spin off and that's very hard to do."
