Sung Hyun Park fires course record at LPGA Keb HanaBank Championship

Sung Hyun Park fired a ten-under 62 to set the course record and move four shots clear after the opening round of the LPGA Keb HanaBank Championship.

The home star struck ten birdies during an outstanding display in Incheon to move clear of nearest challengers Charley Hull and Gerina Piller.

Having posted an early gain at the par-four second, Park rattled in a hat-trick of birdies from the fifth before repeating the feat around the turn to move to the top of the leaderboard.

Park's birdie run showed no sign of letting off on the back nine, picking up further strokes at the 15th and 16th before closing her bogey-free round with a gain at the par-five last.

Despite holding a commanding position at the top of the leaderboard and breaking the record of 63 set by Suzann Pettersen during the first round of her 2012 victory, Park isn't getting carried away in her pursuit of victory on home soil.

"It's really anybody's game at this point," Park said. "I think today, I was especially lucky, but looking ahead to the next three days, I know that double or triple-bogeys are a possibility.

"I'm going to try to not focus on winning too much and really try to do my best."

Hull made a flying start to her bogey-free 66 by birdieing five of the opening seven holes, while Piller made the most of scoring-friendly condition to join the 19-year-old in the tie for second. 

Solheim Cup stars Lexi Thompson and Brittany Lang lie six shots off the pace in a tie for ninth while Lydia Park, who could replace Inbee Park at the top of the world rankings with a strong showing this week, opened with a three-under 69.
