Alvaro Quiros suffered a cruel lipout during the Portugal Masters which saw him bogey the 12th

Alvaro Quiros had an astonishing moment of bad fortune on the 12th green during the opening round of the Portugal Masters in Vilamoura.

The big-hitting Spaniard narrowly missed a 10-foot putt for birdie on the par-five, and he had the most routine of tap-ins from inside a foot to secure his par.

Quiros casually knocked it straight into the middle of the hole and started to bend down to pick it out of the cup, only to stand back in amazement as ball hit the back of the lip and hop out again.

To his credit, Quiros recovered to card five birdies in a round of 67, and a 68 on day two left him seven shots off the lead heading into the weekend.
