Ricky Barnes got himself into a mess during the second round at PGA National

Ricky Barnes suffered an early exit at the Honda Classic, and was left red-faced after finding the water in unusual fashion during his second round.

The American slumped to a bogey-filled 80 as one of the late starters at PGA National, slipping even further down the leaderboard with a hole to forget late on his round.

Starting on the back nine, Barnes was already four over for the day when he encountered further problems at the par-three fifth.

Left with a tricky lie having narrowly avoided the water off the tee, Barnes saw things go from bad to worse when his second shot came back off the ridge and over his head back in to the hazard.

Barnes raced back to the tee to have another attempt, eventually running up a quadruple-bogey seven on the hole.
