Jodi Ewart Shadoff drops off the lead at Kia Classic

England's Jodi Ewart Shadoff fell four shots off the pace as Jenny Shin stormed to the summit at the Kia Classic in California.

Ewart Shadoff had shared the first-round lead after an opening 67 at Carlsbad's Aviara Golf Club but could only follow it up with a 71, leaving her alone in eighth place on six under par.

Fellow overnight leader Brittany Lang advanced to a share of second place alongside Lydia Ko on nine under, while Inbee Park shared third with fellow South Korean Kim Hyo-joo at eight under.

They all had to bow to another Korean, though, as Shin shot a sparkling seven-under-par 65 to go clear on 10 under.

Four birdies in the first six holes, including at the par-three third and sixth holes, vaulted the 23-year-old into contention and she added another before the turn and two on the back nine on a blemish-free card.

Jessica Korda and Park Sung-hyun were at seven under, while England's Holly Clyburn climbed to joint 14th on four under with a round of 68. Scotland's Catriona Matthew shot 74 to drop to one under, alongside England's Charley Hull.
