Ernie Els got a hole-in-one on the 16th on day three of the Travelers Championship.

Ernie Els stole the show from major ace specialist Louis Oosthuizen as he lit up the third round of the Travelers Championship with a hole in one at TPC River Highlands.

Els made perfect connection with a seven-iron at the 176-yard 16th hole, and his ball pitched to the right of the pin before taking the break and rolling gently into the cup for what he believes is his 13th ace in competition.

The Big Easy celebrated with high-fives from playing-partners Keegan Bradley and Oosthuizen, who has been no strangers to aces this season having made one on the final day of the Masters thanks to an "assist" from JB Holmes, and he repeated the feat in the first round of The Open at Royal Troon.

Els could not recall winning any prizes for his previous holes in one, but his super stroke at the 16th earned him a luxury watch while he also raised the risk of some caddies arriving for work on Sunday with a hangover.

"I said to the caddies, 'I'll keep the tab open for six hours. After that, you're on your own'," Els told reporters after completing a level-par 70 which kept him at one under for the tournament - 14 shots behind leader Daniel Berger.

"The other two guys played before me, so they gave me a good indication how far it was. Just hit a good solid seven-iron, and that's what we aim at. Every now and again, once in a blue moon you get there."
