Adam Scott hopes to put last year's CIMB Classic near-miss behind him when he begins his PGA Tour season in Malaysia this week.
Scott just missed out on victory last time around when a two-putt birdie on his final hole saw him fall one stroke short of forcing a play-off, as Justin Thomas claimed a maiden PGA Tour title.
Scott then went on a run of five top-10 finishes in his next seven starts, including back-to-back wins on the Florida Swing, and the world No 6 is looking to make an equally impressive start to the campaign .
"It's nice to be able to have this event with FedExCup points, and next week, HSBC Champions (World Golf Championships), and try and get off to a bit of a flyer," said Scott, who won the Honda Classic and Cadillac Championship in consecutive starts.
"There is another good field here this week, so it is going to be tough and (you) need to play some good golf."
Scott tees off alongside Thomas and two-time European Tour winner Jeunghun Wang for the first two rounds, while US Ryder Cup winners Patrick Reed and Ryan Moore begin alongside Sergio Garcia.
Thomas carded a course-record 61 on his way to victory last year and is confident of having further success on the PGA Tour over the coming months.
"This only being my third year (as a professional), I feel like I have a lot of years ahead of me and hopefully a lot of great years," said Thomas, who registered seven top-10 finishes on the PGA Tour last season.
"Any time you can win in this sport is very huge and good for your confidence, so I learned a lot of things from that week and can build a lot of positives off of this event last year.
"I feel like I've definitely been trending the right direction the last year. Hopefully I can say that it was just a springboard for a great run."
