Felicity Johnson carded a stunning 64 to take a two-shot lead at the halfway stage of the season-ending Dubai Masters.
The Birmingham-born, world No 279, made eight birdies in her bogey-free round to race up the leaderboard from 47th overnight.
Johnson's round was her lowest for eight years, as she chases a first triumph since 2011.
A two-time winner on the Ladies European Tour, the 29-year has a two-stroke margin over compatriot Florentyna Parker.
"It's only a three-round event, so you try and put yourself in a good position heading into the final day - I think I did that pretty well," said Johnson.
Parker, the first-round leader, offset three bogeys with as many birdies in a level par 72.
Dane Emily Kristine Pedersen, and Aditi Ashok from India, are a further shot adrift following rounds of 71 and 70 respectively.
