Hideki Matsuyama holes out for eagle at Tournament of Champions

Hideki Matsuyama missed out on a fifth worldwide win in six starts at the Tournament of Champions, despite producing a moment of brilliance during the final round.
The world No 6 had to settle for second as Justin Thomas claimed a three-shot win in Hawaii, although he gave the American a scare with a move up the leaderboard along the back nine.
Matsuyama began the day two strokes adrift of Thomas but saw that deficit increase to five shots by the time the final group reached the par-four 14th.
The Japanese star attacked the reachable green off the tee, only to see his effort land in the rough some 60 feet short of the pin.
Matsuyama then judged his flop shot perfectly to guide the ball over the bunker and on to the dancefloor, before watching it roll in to the centre of the cup for an eagle-two.

Thomas' lead was cut to three shots as a result and his advantage was reduced further when he double-bogeyed the next, before the world No 22 recovered to birdie his final two holes and seal victory.
