Jordan Spieth wants to 'have more fun' and 'smile more' in 2017

Jordan Spieth plans to take a more positive outlook with his game as he looks to add to his tally of majors in 2017.

Spieth kicked off his year with a share of third spot at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions, finishing his week with a blemish-free 65, ahead of another appearance in Hawaii at this week's Sony Open.

The two-time major champion has admitted to losing his cool on occasions during 2016, where he registered three worldwide victories, but has decided to play with a slightly different approach this season.

"I want to have more fun," Spieth told a pre-tournament press conference on Tuesday. "I want to smile more on the golf course.

"I want to just feel like I'm really enjoying the process of playing and living out my dream. I mean, obviously with my personality, good golf certainly helps that.

"I think there were certainly times [last season] where my fuse was a little too short. I mean, people go through those kind of stretches."

The 23-year-old tees off for the opening two rounds in Hawaii alongside Daniel Berger and Justin Thomas, who survived a final round tussle with Hideki Matsuyama to claim a three-shot win in last week's opener.

Spieth claimed a play-off victory in Australia in November but hasn't triumphed on the PGA Tour since May's Dean & Deluca Invitational, and is now looking to return to the winner's circle as soon as possible.

"I'd certainly like to grab a few wins this year and definitely have a chance and close out a major championship," Spieth added. "That's ultimately the goal, is to peak for those events.

"We believe that we have the firepower and the mind to close the deal, so it's just about getting back, wherever it may be. Certainly the focus is on the Masters right now.

"I want to win more than last year. You know, each year I want to win more than the year before."
