Graeme Storm reflects on winning the South Africa Open at the weekend

Graeme Storm believes being able to draw on past experiences helped him keep his nerve and secure a first European Tour title for a decade at the SA Open.

Storm survived a final-day battle with Rory McIlroy to sit alongside the world No 2 at the top of the leaderboard, before prevailing at the third extra play-off hole to reach the winner’s circle for the first time since the 2007 Open de France.

Victory completed a remarkable three months for Storm, who initially missed out on retaining his European Tour card by just 100 euros during the final regular event of last season.

The Englishman was then only handed a reprieve when Patrick Reed announced he would be unable to fulfil the required number of events.

“The pressure of trying to keep my card probably helped get me through and made it a little bit easier,” Storm told Sky Sports News HQ. “But obviously the nerves were still jangling!”

“I managed to control some clutch putts towards the end of the round, which was massive.”
