Four qualification places for The Open available at Singapore Open

Sergio Garcia and former world No 1 Adam Scott headline this week's Singapore Open, where qualification spots for the 146th Open are up for grabs.

The leading four players inside the top 10 and ties this week who aren't already secure a spot at Royal Birkdale will book a place in the field for the third major of the year.

It's the first time in the tournament's history that the event features in the Open Qualifying Series, having only made its return to the Asian Tour's calendar last year after a three-year absence.

Garcia features in the event hoping for a sixth Asian Tour victory in as many countries, but the 37-year-old is refusing to set specific trophy targets for the year ahead.

"I've always felt comfortable coming to Asia, I've done very well here in the tournaments I have played," Garcia said. "I've had a nice little practice from the new year onwards and am excited about starting the season here.

"The scheduling is a little easier but the goals remain the same: keep getting better and keep the consistency where we have had it over the last few years.

"The Open is obviously my favourite tournament, but that doesn't mean I won't try as hard in other events."

Scott is the highest-ranked player in the field and will be confident of starting 2017 with a win at a course and tournament where he has tasted success three times before.

"The course is just one of those things for me, I seem to manage to play well here," Scott said. "It's a fairly generous course in spots but you still have to be precise.

"It fits my eye and fortunately I have been able to take advantage of that a few times over the years."
