Alex Noren is excited to be involved in golf history this week at the ISPS HANDA World Super 6 Perth, where an alternative finish will be trialed on the European Tour for the first time.

The tournament will have traditional stroke play across the first three days, with the top 24 players then featuring in a knock-out competition during the final round.

Matches on Sunday will be played over six holes and, if required, will be settled on a specially constructed par-three at Lake Karrinyup CC.

This week's event is the first of a number of innovative format changes on the European Tour over the next few months, with Noren keen to embrace new ideas within the sport.

"I think it's great that we try new things and I think it's going to be exciting for the crowds and nice for the TV viewers too," Noren said. "I think anything where the crowd experiences a new way for us to play the game is good.

"I love watching the X Games on TV and things like that. I guess if you've got a 90 yard hole as a play-off hole, it's going to be a lot more intense than a usual 90 yard shot is. I think we should work out more ways to do this kind of thing."

The four-time European Tour winner is joined in the field by Turkish Airlines Open Champion Thorbjorn Olesen and Louis Oosthuizen, who won last year's tournament when it was known as the Perth International.

"I think the format is a great idea and a great concept," he said. "I hope the crowd gets behind it and it should be a fantastic week.

"Lake Karrinyup is probably one of the best courses is Perth so it's awesome to be back home and playing in front of a home crowd. I'm looking forward to the week.

"It's been a great start to the year. I've managed to get into three European Tour events which has been awesome, a great experience leading into a very busy year."
