Cody Gribble decides to usher an alligator back into the water at the Arnold Palmer Invitational ... by tapping it on the tail

Cody Gribble discarded any thoughts of personal safety when he came across an alligator on the edge of the fairway during the opening round of the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

Like many resorts in Florida, the Bay Hill Club and Lodge is home to plenty of reptilian life, and there are signs all over the course warning players not to mess with any of them.

But Gribble defied the warnings as he headed to the green and approached a large alligator perched on the bank of one of the vast lakes at the venue, and he decided the creature would be better off in the water.

However, instead of trying to scare the alligator, or even poke it with a three-iron, Gribble gave it a tap on the tail with his hand. At least it had the desired effect, but seriously folks - do not try this at home!
