A day after his spectacular hole-in-one on 17 at TPC Sawgrass, Sergio Garcia finds the green via a huge bounce off the wooden sleepers

Sergio Garcia lit up the opening day of The Players Championship with his thrilling hole-in-one at the 17th, but he took an entirely different route to the green on day two.

Garcia became only the eighth man in TPC Sawgrass history to ace the iconic par-three penultimate hole towards the end of his first round as he salvaged a respectable 73 despite being four over after six holes.

The Masters champion made an encouraging start to his second round when, after teeing off at the 10th, he birdied the 11th and 12th to get under the card for the tournament.

But he made a mistake at the 14th and then came perilously close to a card-wrecking score at 17, where he under-hit his short-iron from the tee and he would have been thinking of heading to the drop zone.

However, Garcia's ball made the carry over the water by a matter of inches and landed on the wooden sleepers that surround the island green, bouncing yards into the air and coming down softly on the putting surface.

The Spaniard, champion here in 2008, took advantage of the good break to two-putt from 45 feet for par, and he then birdied the next two holes to get to two under and within three of the lead.
