Jason Day fired a round-of-the-day 63 to move back in to contention during the third round of the AT&T Byron Nelson

Jason Day fired a round-of-the-day 63 to move within two strokes of the lead heading in to the final round of the AT&T Byron Nelson.

The world No 4 mixed eight birdies with a sole blemish in an impressive display at TPC Four Seasons to move within two strokes of pacesetter James Hahn.

Day came into the weekend 10 shots off the pace but now lies in a share of third spot alongside overnight leader Jason Kokrak, as he chases a first worldwide victory since last year's Players Championship.

Billy Horschel is Hahn's closest challenger and sits a stroke behind following a four-under 66, while Masters champion Sergio Garcia surged into contention after making six birdies on his back nine.

Kokrak started five strokes clear and bounced back from a three-putt bogey at the third with a 15-foot gain at the next, only to open up the tournament with an ugly triple-bogey at the fifth.

Day took advantage and fired five consecutive birdies from the seventh to grab a share of the lead, only for Kokrak to edge ahead with a gain at the seventh.

Three birdies in a four-hole stretch around the turn lifted Hahn into a share of the lead, before the American edged ahead by picking up a shot at the 15th and rolling in a two-putt birdie at the next.

Kokrak birdied the 16th but bogeyed the next after missing the green off the tee, as Day bounced back from a blemish at the 14th by rolling in a gain at the 16th and draining a 60-foot birdie on his penultimate hole.

Horschel closed his round with three straight gains to get to 11 under and grab outright second, with Cameron Tringale matching that finish to sit in fifth spot a further two strokes back.

A back-nine 29 lifted Garcia in a share of sixth and within four of the leaders, while world No 1 Dustin Johnson dropped seven back after a one-over 71.
