Tiger Woods has been arrested in Florida on suspicion of driving under the influence, according to police.
The 14-time Major winner was arrested at about 3am on Monday in a suburban area and taken to the Palm Beach County jail, Jupiter Police spokeswoman Kristin Rightler said.
Jail records show that Woods was booked into Palm Beach County jail at 7:18am and released at 10:50am on his own recognizance, which means he has given a written undertaking to co-operate with future legal proceedings.
And Sky Sports News HQ understands that the arrest related to drink driving.
The 41-year-old Woods is one of the greatest golfers in the history of the sport, with 79 career PGA Tour wins to his name, but his career has been derailed by injury over recent years.
And he has not played competitive golf since pulling out of the Dubai Desert Classic in February after one round because of back pain.
The American subsequently had spinal fusion surgery on April 20, a fourth operation in three years on his troublesome back, which has limited him to three tournament starts worldwide in the past two years.
However, Woods wrote on his website last week that, since his latest procedure, he was feeling better than he had in years and remained committed to returning to competitive golf.
Woods wrote: "My surgeon and physiotherapist say the operation was successful. It's just a matter of not screwing up and letting it fuse.
"I'm walking and doing my exercises, and taking my kids to and from school. All I can do is take it day by day. There's no hurry.
"But, I want to say unequivocally, I want to play professional golf again."
His life away from the course previously made headlines in 2009 when his marriage came to an end amidst allegations about affairs with several women.
