Beginning the day one back from Uihlein, Fleetwood almost aced his tee shot at the second and added a two-putt gain at the next before birdieing the ninth to reach the turn in 33.

Uihlein bogeyed two of his first five holes but bounced back by birdieing the next, while Bjork picked up a shot at the fifth and chipped in at the seventh to briefly grab a share of the lead.

Three birdies in a four-hole stretch from the 11th by Uihlein was followed by a gain at the 17th to keep the pressure on Fleetwood, who close his round with a run of pars to set the target at 12 under.

Needing a final-hole birdie to force a play-off, Uihlein found the bunker with his approach in to the par-four and couldn't pitch in from the sand as he closed with a par.

A consolation for Uihlein was that a runner-up finish secured him a place in the field for next month's Open at Royal Birkdale, with three places available for those inside the top-10 and not already exempt.
