Tournament host Paul Lawrie fell to a narrow defeat in the second round of the Saltire Energy Paul Lawrie Match Play.
The former Open champion and five-time European Tour winner struggled over the closing holes on the back nine to suffer a 2&1 defeat to Spain's Alejandro Cañizares at Golf Resort Bad Griesbach.
The Scotsman, who is hosting the tournament for the third year running, held a one-up lead on the 13th but birdies at the 14th and 17th helped Canizares to victory and a meeting with Ireland's Paul Dunne.
Dunne was a convincing 4&3 winner over Jens Fahrbring after recovering from losing the opening hole to his opponent before firing five birdies in the contest.
Anthony Wall, the defending champion, progressed to the last 16 with another strong finish which saw him to a 2&1 victory over Haydn Porteous to book a last-16 meeting with Wales' Ryder Cup winner Jamie Donaldson.
Donaldson proved too solid for Spain's Jorge Campillo in a comfortable 4&3 victory which included five birdies and an eagle.
There were comfortable victories for English pair Chris Paisley and Tom Lewis over Nathan Kimsey and Zander Lombard respectively in Germany.

The in-form Matthew Southgate, who enjoyed a top-10 finish at The Open, fell to a convincing 4&2 defeat to Sweden's Johan Carlsson. Carlsson will next meet Australia's 3-time European Tour winner Marcus Fraser after he edged Maximilian Kieffer 2&1.
