"It's quite special to be honest," Bjorn said. "When you started adding up the numbers where we was in April and May it looked like it was going to be around here that 500 was going to come along so we took the opportunity to make it happen.

"I'm excited about the week but it's also a reminder of what's gone in the past. 500 events is a lot, there's been a lot of happiness and a lot of tears along the way but it's been much more than I could ever have dreamt of.

Pieters secured a captain's pick for last year's Ryder Cup after an impressive victory last year, with the Belgian frustrated not to have reached the winner's circle since then.

"My main focus to win a golf tournament and I haven't done that," he said. "I've gotten into contention a bunch of times and not finished it off. I'm not happy this year, not yet, it's not over yet.

"I have good memories and the course looks in very good shape, looks very similar to last year's set up. I've played well, I'm swinging it well, I just need to putt well this week and there's plenty of birdies out there."
