Sam Saunders, the grandson of the late Arnold Palmer, carded a 12-under-par 59 on the opening day of the Web.com Tour Championship in Florida.

The 30-year-old birdied 13 holes, and used his putter just 20 times, as he swept into a three-stroke lead at Atlantic Beach in Jacksonville.

He birdied his final six holes, and came home in only 28 shots, with Saunders aiming to regain his PGA Tour playing rights ahead of the 2017-18 season which starts next week in California.
