Paul Dunne enjoys a huge slice of luck as his ball bounces back off a sprinkler head and sets up a crucial birdie at the British Masters.

Paul Dunne played some superb golf during the early stages of his final round at the British Masters supported by Sky Sports, but he also enjoyed a moment of good fortune on the 11th.

The 24-year-old Irishman was nicely placed for his second shot into the green from the right-hand side of the fairway on the 373-yard par four at Close House.

He struck his wedge shot well but the ball drifted slightly to the left as it approached the green.

It then hit the edge of a small hole around a pop-up sprinkler head and bounced back onto the green, within a couple of feet of the pin.

Dunne was all smiles at his lucky break and he strode up to the green and nailed his putt for a birdie three to move to 17 under for the tournament.

He said later: "I was trying to hit it just right of the flag. I just got a little ahead of it and pulled it, and when you pull it, it goes really long.

"It had a lot of spin on. I didn't know how far down that slope it was going to be but I was expecting it to go down there and be a difficult up-and-down. And then I didn't know what happened.

"I saw a ball flying sideways and looked like it was close. I'm not going to complain. I've got many good breaks, many bad breaks, but one that was a great one for that time."
