Sergio Garcia one off the lead as further storms disrupt Singapore Open

Sergio Garcia is one shot off the lead midway through his second round as the SMBC Singapore Open suffered further weather disruption on day two.

Approaching storms had forced the first day's play to be suspended with several players still on the course, and play was called off even earlier on Friday with Garcia having completed only eight holes at Sentosa Golf Club.

Thailand's Chapchai Nirat managed to get round in 64 before the adverse weather arrived, giving him the clubhouse lead on seven under par, while his compatriot Tirawat Kaewsiribandit (70) and South African Shaun Norris (67) were one stroke behind and also safely in the clubhouse.

Garcia had a share of the overnight lead after opening with a confident 66, and he made a steady start to his second round with seven pars and a lone birdie at the long fourth.

But the Masters champion will have 10 holes to complete when play resumes on Saturday morning, while Kurt Kitayama had played only two holes before the sirens sounded - a birdie at the second lifting the American into the tie for third.

Former Open champion Louis Oosthuizen slipped to four under after a disappointing 72 which included three birdies, two bogeys and a double-bogey at the third, while Australian Open winner Cameron Davis is also three off the lead after adding a 70 to his opening 68.

Last season's Asian Tour Order of Merit champion Gavin Green is two under for the tournament after eight holes, and he is one of 78 players in the field who were unable to finish their second rounds.
