Julian Suri missed a putt from less than a foot during the opening round of the Qatar Masters

Julian Suri produced an early contender for miss of the year after a shocking mistake during the opening round of the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters.

The American missed the cut by a single stroke after rounds of 74 and 67 at Doha GC, with one careless moment a big factor in Suri not progressing through to the weekend.

Suri was level-par for his opening round when he missed the fairway off the par-four 15th tee, only to fire an impressive second shot to find the front-edge of the green.

The world No 70 smartly judged his birdie effort from the best part of 50 feet to leave what seemed like it was going to be a tap-in par, only to inexplicably miss his effort from less than a foot away.
