Justin Thomas pulls off an astonishing up-and-down from a deep hazard to snatch an unlikely half against Luke List at the WGC Match Play in Austin.

Justin Thomas pulled off the most unlikely par-save of the year to snatch a half against Luke List midway through their opening match at the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play.

Thomas was three up after eight holes in Austin with List forced to putt with a wedge after bending his putter earlier in the round, but List looked certain to reduce the deficit at the ninth with his opponent in deep trouble.

List was in the fringe in two at the par-four, while Thomas knocked his second into the greenside hazard and must have contemplated conceding the hole as he clambered down a wall to inspect his lie.

Just getting his ball over the wall and onto the putting surface would have been some achievement, but Thomas played an outstanding pitch to six feet and rattled in the par putt to stay three ahead at the turn.

Despite the absence of his putter, List did well to rally on the back nine and take the match to the final hole before Thomas completed a hard-fought victory in Group 2.
