The American's ace was the 20th on that particular par-three in the tournament's history and helped him post a five-under 67, seeing him end the week on seven under.

Beginning the day 12 strokes off the pace, Hoffman birdied his opening two holes and picked up another shot at the seventh on his way to reaching the turn in 33.

We look back at the best of the Augusta holes-in-one in Masters history.

Hoffman bounced back from a blemish at the 11th to pick up a shot at the par-five 15th, before experiencing even better fortunes at the 178-yard next.

The 41-year-old saw his tee shot just clear the greenside bunker and take a hop off the fringe, before rolling down the short slope into the centre of the cup.

How the 2018 Masters Was Won

"You know there are holes-in-one available at 16," said Hoffman after completing his round. "I was just trying to hit it out there to the right with a six-iron, use the slope and have it come back in and give myself a chance of birdie.

"I pulled it and yelled 'get up and go', and hopefully carry the bunker and give myself a look at birdie.

"It barely cleared the bunker, it nicked a little right and my caddie yells 'go in'. And everyone stands up and jumps up and down and all of a sudden I start celebrating.

"It was a great experience the hole-on one, a great feeling and it's something that I'll never forget."
