Lexi Thompson and Cristie Kerr got the 2017 Solheim Cup off to a stunning start in Iowa as they sent the home supporters into raptures with an eagle at the opening hole.
The top match in Friday's foursomes pitted Thompson and Kerr against English duo Mel Reid and Charley Hull, and Reid got the competition under way with an excellent opening drive which came up just short of the green at the driveable par-four.
But Thompson, the world No 2, gave the American fans plenty to cheer as she stepped up and hammered a fairway-wood off the tee, and the noise ramped up as her ball bounded onto the putting surface and came to rest just 10 feet from the pin.
And, after Hull had pitched on, Kerr rolled in the putt for eagle to give Juli Inkster's side the perfect start in their quest to retain the trophy.
