LeBron James has capped his 15th NBA regular season with another record.

The Cleveland Cavaliers star played in his 82nd game on Wednesday night in their 98-110 loss to the New York Knicks.

James has never played every game in a regular season before as he usually rests towards the end of the season ahead of the play-offs. .

The four-time MVP's previous high was in 2008/09, playing 81, when then Coach Mike Brown rested him in the last game..

Earlier in the season, James slam-dunked his way to a record 867th consecutive regular-season game with at least 10 points, surpassing Michael Jordan.

Before that he became the youngest player at 33 to reach the 30,000 points milestone, overtaking Kobe Bryant who was 34.

The 33-year-old will finish the regular season leading the league in points and minutes played. He came into the game against New York averaging 27.7 points with career-highs in assists, 9.2, and rebounds 8.7.

James will also lead the Cavs in total points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks but is not expected to be named MVP with Houston's James Harden remaining the favourite.

However James was not the only one to enter the record books. Russell Westbrook became the first player in NBA history to average a triple double in multiple seasons.

Westbrook entered Oklahoma City Thunders' 137-123 win against the Memphis Grizzles on Wednesday needing 16 rebounds to complete his triple double average for a second straight season.

He joined Oscar Robertson last season as the only players to achieve this record. Westbrook earned his 16th rebound with nine minutes left in the third quarter.
