Actor and director Phil Davis told Soccer AM that fans are 'mad' to question Arsene Wenger.
Arsene is a genius, says Gooner Davis
Arsene Wenger is a genius and those who question him are out of their mind, according to Phil Davis.
The actor/director is a lifelong Arsenal fan and an equally big supporter of their French manager, who he says has revolutionised the club.
Davis saw the Gunners win trophy after trophy during a golden period between 1998 and 2005, during which Wenger led the club to three Premier League titles and four FA Cups.
Since then, the North Londoners have gone seven seasons without claiming any silverware and had looked in danger of finishing outside the top four for the first time under the Frenchman for much of the current campaign.
However, a late surge up the table has seen Wenger's men climb above bitter rivals Tottenham and into third in the Premier League table with just one game of the season remaining.
"They're mad! They're crazy," David told
Soccer AM.
"He's certainly the best manager that Arsenal have ever had. He completely transformed the club and a lot of what is happening at the club is a result of Arsene Wenger's new regime at Arsenal.
"I think he's a genius and I think [the critics] should leave him alone. Of course he's stubborn, he's a football manager! You have to be stubborn to be a football manger.
"But they play fantastic football and they've been consistently in the Champions League, year after year and after a bad start to the season they'll be there again."
Cult
The Essex-born thespian first shot to fame in the cult film Quadrophenia, but has since appeared in a wide range of TV dramas.
In 2005 he put in a BAFTA-nominated performance in Vera Drake and starred in the award-winning drama Bleak House.
The Arsenal fan is also known for
ID, the iconic football film he directed in 1995 about a group of undercover policemen who infiltrate a hooligan gang.
The film has recently been re-released and the 58-year-old told Helen and Max all about the challenges of making it.
