British Ethnic Diversity Sports Awards set for March 18 in London

Nominations have opened for the third annual British Ethnic Diversity Sports Awards (BEDSAs), hosted by the charity Sporting Equals.

Sir Lenny Henry will host the March 18 event in London, recognising and celebrating sporting excellence within Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities.

Award categories include Sportsman of the Year and Sportswoman of the Year, Coach of the Year, Community Sports Project of the Year and an Inspirational Performance of the Year Award.

"It's an absolute honour to be hosting the 2017 BEDSA awards in what has been an amazing sporting year," Sir Lenny said.

"I'm looking forward to hosting an event that rewards the achievements of elite athletes, coaches, administrators, community volunteers and other inspirational people."

Sporting Equals CEO, Arun Kang, added: "Sporting Equals are delighted that Sir Lenny Henry has agreed to host our third annual awards. 

"This demonstrates the success and popularity of the awards ceremony which celebrates the achievement in sport of Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic communities and will help inspire a nation to get active."

Previous BEDSA winners include former heptahletes Jessica Ennis-Hill and Denise Lewis, gymnast Rebecca Downie, F1 driver Lewis Hamilton and former boxer Frank Bruno.
