Sirens beat Hertfordshire Mavericks in final Vitality Superleague match
Friday 2 June 2017 13:45, UK
Sirens Netball completed their debut season in the Vitality Superleague with a 57-43 win over Hertfordshire Mavericks on Thursday.
A strong finish to the first quarter saw Sirens open up a 16-10 advantage, which they extended to 30-20 at half-time.
Sirens continued to control the match and closed out a 57-43 win to secure a sixth-place finish in the table.
Mavericks are seventh, but could be leapfrogged by Severn Stars if they win their final match of the season against Manchester Thunder on Saturday.
Thunder are already assured of a top-four finish but need a win to secure third spot. The battle for fourth is going down to the wire, with Team Bath and Surrey Storm both in contention.
Team Bath finish the regular season with a trip to second-placed Wasps on Saturday (5pm) while Storm travel to table-topping Loughborough Lightning (6pm, live on Sky Sports Mix).
Bath hold a three-point advantage over Storm so victory would see them guarantee a top-four spot, while if the teams finish level on points it will be determined by goal average, with Bath currently leading Storm 1.11 to 1.10.
Elsewhere on the final weekend, Celtic Dragons host Team Northumbria.
