Elise Christie faces a race against time to be able to compete in her final event at the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang.

Short track speed skating star Christie crashed out of her second competition on Saturday, having to be stretchered off after a crash on the final turn of her 1,500m semi-final as she made a desperate last-ditch effort to qualify.

Christie's Olympic nightmare, which started in Sochi four years ago with three disqualifications, has continued in South Korea with a fall having also ended her medal hopes in the 500m final last week.

The Scot suffered an ankle injury after slamming into the barriers and Great Britain chef de mission Mike Hay said on Sunday her hopes of racing in the 1,000m event - which takes place on Tuesday - are firmly in the balance.

Christie posted a short video on Twitter on Sunday showing she was already able to ride an exercise bike.

Earlier, Hay had said: "It's a bit of a fight against time whether she can make it or not.

"Nothing is broken - she's got soft tissue damage to her right ankle and we won't be making a decision until Tuesday morning about whether she can skate or not.

"She wants to make it but it might not be her decision at the end of the day - you've to be able to put the skate on your foot. We'll have to wait and see what the doctors say and take it from there."

"There must be some chance or they wouldn't be saying we can wait until Tuesday, so we'll just have to sit tight for the next 48 hours.

"We've got a programme put together to give her the best opportunity but it's very much in the balance. If she's able to skate she will. I don't think it's a problem for her mentally."
