Derby trial option for Amazing Red says Ed Dunlop

Ed Dunlop is to consider running Amazing Red in a Derby trial after he got off the mark on his second racecourse start in a 10-furlong maiden at Pontefract on Wednesday.

The Newmarket trainer was delighted with the Galileo colt's performance, not least as Amazing Red is a half-brother to the stable's much-missed globe-trotter Red Cadeaux, who amassed almost £5million in prize-money during an amazing racing career.

Sadly, he died from a leg injury sustained in the Melbourne Cup in which he had finished second three times.

Like his illustrious sibling, Amazing Red is owned by Ronnie Arculli.

He holds an entry in the Investec Derby and Dunlop will now ponder his future.

"We were very pleased with the way Amazing Red won at Pontefract and it was obviously a poignant victory in relation to being Red Cadeaux's half-brother," said Dunlop.

"He is home now and we are happy with what went on yesterday. We will now see about the future with him.

"We will see what the handicapper does, have a discussion and see how he takes yesterday's race.

"A Derby trial could now be under consideration for him. He is not entered in the Dante Stakes and won't be going there."
