Charming Thought looks set to end a lengthy spell on the sidelines and make his first start in more than 18 months in the British Stallion Studs EBF Cathedral Stakes at Salisbury on Sunday.

Trainer Charlie Appleby intends to run the Group One-winning four-year-old, who has not been seen since claiming the 2014 Middle Park Stakes, in the six-furlong Listed contest ahead of a potential outing in next month's Darley July Cup.

He said: "I am pleased with Charming Thought and I can't wait to get him back out on track.

"Every time he goes forward he seems to meet with another setback. Since his original problem, which was the chip in the knee, he has just had so many niggling problems.

"I am delighted with the way he is training at the moment and he is showing all the right signs.

"Whatever he does on Sunday he will come forward for. He is in the July Cup, but we will wait and see what happens Sunday.

"We have go to see if he has the enthusiasm for it, as he has had a long time off.

"It is also a case of whether we stay at six with him, as he has to show he retains that speed. On his home evidence he has."
