Iain Jardine may be tempted to run Shrewd in the Swinton Hurdle at Haydock on Saturday.

The six-year-old has improved in leaps and bounds since joining the Carrrutherstown trainer, winning four races - including the Scottish County Hurdle.

His good run came to an end when upped in class for the Scottish Champion Hurdle but Jardine feels he may have a valid excuse for that, rather than just being outclassed.

"It was a big step up but he did return with a screw stuck in the sole of his foot," said Jardine.

"They bypassed a hurdle and I just wonder if he did it on the first circuit, I don't know, but he might have done.

"I know it was a better race, but he went there in really good form and I expected him to run better than that.

"He might be well handicapped on the Flat but I'm considering the Swinton Hurdle as that fast pace should suit him.
