Doncaster ground unchanged ahead of Ladbrokes St Leger day

The going ahead of the fourth day of the 2016 Ladbrokes St Leger Festival remains good, good to firm in places.

The track had been forecast to be hit by as many as 18mm of rain overnight prompting fears that the going could be soft by the start of racing.

However, those predictions proved wide of the mark with Roderick Duncan, Clerk of the Course at Doncaster, reporting: "We only had one millimetre of rain overnight and the going remains Good, Good to Firm in places for Ladbrokes St Leger Day.

"We have missed the rain at Doncaster and I would say it is pretty much perfect ground for Flat racing.

"Having walked the course this morning, I would say it is walking quicker than it did at the same time yesterday. The forecast looks positive for the rest of the day.

"The course has held up really well this week - it is a great credit to estates manager Tim Radford and his team.

"The rain we had last week was perfect - I couldn't have planned it better. It enabled us to start the meeting just on the easy side of good and we haven't had to interfere with the course."
