A review of Monday's action at Hamilton where Mick Channon's Scrutineer lowered the colours of hotpot Danzeno.
Scrutineer relished the testing conditions on the final meeting on the year at Hamilton to floor hotpot Danzeno in the totepoolliveinfo.
Mick Channon's 3/1 winner was useful as a juvenile and has been busy and largely consistent as a three-year-old, building here on his last-time-out third in a well-contested Listed contest won by Nameitwhatyoulike at York.
Group One-placed Danzeno is a high-class performer at his best, but has not got his head in front in over a year and while he was soon bowling along at the head of affairs, the danger signs appeared from two out.
Chased along with a furlong to run, the even-money favourite had no answer as Graham Lee and Scrutineer went clear. To his credit, the market leader fought back but was a length down at the line.
Channon could look for a "sexy" entry for his charge in the coming weeks.
He said: "He was second in the Free Handicap at the start of the year and he's a pretty good horse when he gets his ground.
"We thought he had a pretty good chance. I know we were taking on a hot favourite, but once the ground went for him, we had to go. I'm very pleased it's worked out."
He added: "We did enter him for Ascot on Friday because there was a chance this meeting might have been abandoned and we wanted to keep our options open.
"I would say it would be doubtful he'll run at Ascot now, but we'll see. When the ground is soft we might have a go in something sexy."
Party Tiger made his experience count to get off the mark at the fourth time of asking in the toteplacepot/ British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Stakes.
Richard Fahey's youngster soon led before being joined by Hee Haw, who looked to be going best two furlongs out, with favourite Perfect Symphony another to challenge, but the 6/1 winner showed a good attitude to hit top gear and assert half a furlong out.
Half a length was the winning margin for Tony Hamilton's mount.
Full Of Promise lost her maiden tag in division one of the toteexacta Forecast The 1st And 2nd Handicap to give Fahey a double, under stable apprentice Adam McNamara.
Having her ninth start, the 9/2 winner got a good tow into matters and stayed on best for a half-length call from Slim Chance in what was a slow-motion finish.
Division two went to Reflation (4/1), who stayed on relentlessly down the near side for Michael Dods and Connor Beasley to again account for market leader Jacob's Pillow, having done so over course and distance last week.
Dods' charge had been beaten at the track at the weekend, but showed no ill effects from his busy schedule as he defied a penalty by a ready five lengths.
The same trainer-jockey combination teamed up for a double with 11/4 joint-favourite Rocktherunway, who would not be denied from the front in the totepoolracing Find Us On Instagram Handicap, winning by eight lengths with the field well strung out.
There was another desperate finish to the totetrifecta Pick The 1,2,3 Handicap as the Kevin Ryan-trained Taking Libertys, who looked like winning well at one stage, dug very deep to get there by a neck from Royal Holiday as the 9/2 favourite.
The Keith Dalgleish-trained Amy Blair (13/2) made light of the stamina-sapping terrain with a brave front-running performance in the At totepoolracing Win Tickets On Twitter Apprentice Handicap for Shirley Teasdale.
