Brian Meehan is no hurry to map out a programme for Spark Plug following his victory in the Betfred Cambridgeshire at Newmarket on Saturday.

The Manton handler reports the five-year-old to have taken in his stride his exertions in lifting the notoriously difficult nine-furlong cavalry charge.

It was an emotional triumph for connections as Spark Plug and his jockey Jimmy Fortune had suffered a nasty fall in the Royal Hunt Cup at Ascot in June 2015.

Meehan said: "He's come out of the race good, but I've have no plans for him at the moment."

However, the trainer does have his eyes on another valuable race, the Group Three John Guest Bengough Stakes at Ascot on Saturday.

He intends to saddle Windfast in the six-furlong contest after the five-year-old gelding registered his first success for over a year in the Listed Hopeful Stakes at Newmarket last month.
