Marcus Tregoning has revealed Argenterie had a dirty scope following her poor effort in the Rockfel Stakes at Newmarket.
The Whitsbury handler had expected a lot more from the filly on the back of her victory at Salisbury, but she beat only one home when seventh behind Spain Burg in the Group Two over seven furlongs.
"It was very disappointing. Unfortunately, she had a filthy scope after the race.
"That happens, it's been a tricky year, but hopefully she'll bounce back and we'll see if she has another run this year," Tregoning told At The Races.
"Let's hope that's the only reason. It was lightning-fast ground so we'll see now that we're getting to the autumn ground, which will be easier.
"We're muddled by that performance, but she was scoped immediately afterwards. It was a bit disappointing having had a clear run with her building up to the race.
"She hasn't coughed. It shows you just how difficult it is."
