Double Shuffle is on target for a tilt at the BetVictor Gold Cup at Cheltenham on November 12.

Entries for the contest close on Tuesday and Tom George's charge, third to Ballyalton in the Listed Close Brothers Novices' Handicap Chase at The Festival last season, will be among them.

He shaped encouragingly when runner-up to Art Mauresque in a warm heat at Chestow earlier this month.

The trainer said: "The BetVictor Gold Cup was the initial target after Double Shuffle's run at Chepstow.

"We are also going to give him a speculative entry in the Haldon Gold Cup [Exeter, November 1] as it looks like it could be quite fast ground down there.

"He has come out of Chepstow very well and has come on a lot for it. He was too fresh and keen early on and that will have got the steam out of him.

"He seems to be an improving horse and has the right profile for a race like the BetVictor Gold Cup. He was placed at The Festival and I would like to think he is growing up all the time."
