Michael Scudamore is keeping his fingers crossed a 9lb rise will be enough for Mysteree to make the cut for the Coral Welsh National at Chepstow on December 27.

The eight-year-old was a game winner of a three-and-a-half-mile handicap heat at Haydock last Saturday and Scudamore was hoping for a big handicap hike to put him in the frame for the Grade Three heat.

Scudamore said: "He's gone up to 129 so we will have to wait and see if that is enough to get in at Chepstow.

"The Welsh National is the target and that is plan A, but we will have a look and see what other opportunities are available around that time as a plan B, in case he doesn't get in.

"He ran three and a half miles on heavy ground at Haydock so to try to squeeze in another run before the Welsh National would be too tight, I think.

"It would be very tough to have another race and then go on to Chepstow, so we will give him his full time between races and see how we go."
