Champion jockey Jim Crowley will travel to Qatar over the Festive period after he was booked to ride Scarlet Dragon for Eve Johnson Houghton.

The three-year-old has been invited to run in the Qatar Derby after a successful season that saw him rise to a mark of 109 after four wins that included success in the Old Rowley Cup at Newmarket.

Crowley, who has recently been confirmed as first-choice jockey to Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum, rode Scarlet Dragon to win at Newbury in July and will renew the acquaintance.

"Scarlet Dragon is still in our ownership and has been invited to Qatar," said owner Henry Ponsonby.

"He is due to run in the Qatar Derby, which is for three-year-olds over 10 furlongs on December 29.

"Jim Crowley has agreed to ride him so it is all very exciting.
