This afternoon's jumps fixture at Ludlow has been abandoned due to a frozen track but racing goes ahead at Wetherby.

Officials at the Shropshire venue were left with no alternative but to draw stumps after overnight temperatures fell to -3C.

Clerk of the course Simon Sherwood had intended to officially inspect the track at 0800(GMT), but, even in spite of rising temperatures, the situation was considered untenable.

There was better news at Wetherby where the course passed a precautionary inspection.

Frost had been a potential issue at the Yorkshire circuit, but overnight cloud cover and morning rain helped to allay fears of abandonment.

A statement issued by Wetherby read: "Overnight low of -2C again on Thursday evening, then some cloud cover from 9pm, with temperatures of 0C all night.

"Forecast is for the cloud to remain and temperatures to rise to 4C at 11am, with the possibility of some rain."
