Kieran Shoemark has broken multiple ribs and punctured a lung in a fall at Lingfield on Saturday evening.

Shoemark was riding Cutthechat for Robyn Brisland in the RBL Surrey County EBF Novice Stakes when his mount fatally fell four furlongs from home, bringing down Estupendo, ridden by apprentice Dayverson De Barros, who was also taken to hospital but escaped serious injury.

Shoemark has struck up a good relationship with Roger Charlton in recent seasons and the trainer told Racing UK's Luck On Sunday: "I messaged him this morning and he replied himself that he had broken 12 ribs.

"It left me counting me ribs, I don't know how many we have but it seems that is the majority, and he's punctured a lung. His head is ok but he's obviously in a lot of pain. I didn't see it but I gather it was horrific to watch.
