Matty Fozard forced to pull out of Wales squad

St Helens hooker Matty Fozard has pulled out of the Wales European Championship squad after breaking his jaw in training.

The injury was sustained little over an hour after he was announced in the squad, in an accidental collision.

The 20-year-old learnt the extent of his injury on Thursday and will be out injured for another six weeks.

South Wales Scorpions hooker Connor Farrer, who played in all three of Wales' games last season and scored on his international debut against Scotland, has replaced Fozard in the squad.

He becomes the 14th Welsh-born player in the squad and the 13th to come through South Wales Rugby league academy sides.

"I'm delighted to have been called up, although it's sad that it had to happen in such a way," Farrer admitted. "I'm gutted for Matty and I wish him all the best in his recovery."
