On the pitch, Barrie McDermott and Terry O'Connor liked nothing better than tearing into the opposition.
They may have hung up their boots but that competitive streak still runs strong and we have found a way to channel their energies.
Each week, they will give their predictions for the Super League games; they will score one point for a win and if they both pick the winner, then the pundit with the closest score gets an extra point.
Terry has pipped Barrie to the post with his predictions for the regular season of Super League but the overall crown is still up for grabs as we head into the Grand Final.

Terry says: There is so much emotion on both sides. On Wigan's side you have the likes of Matty Bowen and Joe Burgess leaving to down under. For Leeds you have Jamie Peacock, Kylie Leuluai. And Kevin Sinfield also having their farewells. I think Sinfield has been Leeds best signing ever. He has achieved so much for that club and they will really miss him. He is looking to lead the Rhinos to a 10th championship and record seventh Grand Final as skipper. That is just absolutely incredible.
I don't know how Leeds keep pulling it out of the bag. They did it against Huddersfield and they did it against St Helens last weekend to get them to the Grand Final. They are just a quality side and they have the current Man of Steel in Zak Hardaker who has been in great form.
Leeds are up against a very determined Wigan side. They had the rug pulled from underneath them in last year's Grand Final and they want to go out there make amends. It is all about winning it for Wigan this year.
Leeds are missing two crucial players in Jamie Jones-Buchanan and Stevie Ward - their work rate is something else and they will be missed.
Prediction: This is our last head-to-head of the year and we all know who Barrie is going to pick. The score does not matter - I could say Wigan by 50 points - because Barrie is going for Leeds. But for me I think Wigan are going home with the trophy.
Barrie says: This final promises to be a classic with all the ingredients bubbling away nicely. We have retiring heroes, world class athletes, revenge and history all adding to the drama.
The Rhinos finished in first place only on points difference from Wigan - and that was only the third time in the summer era that the league leadership had been decided on points difference.
Shaun Wane in his third Grand Final has been very clear in his intentions. He wants to banish the memory of 2014 and the red card that was the catalyst for a Saints victory last year.
Wigan will be desperate to win this one - Joe Burgess plays his last game for the club, while Ben Flowers will lead from the front.
Brian McDermott and his Leeds camp have a historic treble in front of them but will have to beat Wigan for the first time in a major final. They have met on six previous occasions and the Wiganers have won them all.
To try to predict this game is virtually impossible. There are arguments and counter arguments all over the pitch. However I believe we've saved the best until last and I also believe that although Phil and Tez may well see the merit in siding with Wigan, I'm backing Leeds.
Prediction: I am sticking with Leeds Rhinos to complete the treble, lift the trophy and send Peacock, Sinfield and Leuluai out on their shields. Leeds to win by eight.
